What is Community Choice Aggregation (CCA)?

Community Choice Aggregation agencies, or CCAs, are a not-for-profit energy model governed by local elected officials, bringing transparency and accountability to the community. CCAs generate the electricity and put the electricity on the grid, and PG&E delivers the electricity to your residence and sends your bill. CCAs allow communities to decide how their electricity is sourced - all offer a high percentage of renewable energy in their basic "mix", and all offer electricity generated from 100% renewable energy sources.

The cost for electricity is comparable or less than what investor-owned utilities like PG&E charge and CCA profits are reinvested in the communities that the CCA serves - not to shareholders. Look at your PG&E bill to see if you are a CCA customer - it's the "Generation" line item.

Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) started right here in the Bay Area in 2010, and there are now over 24 CCAs iour state that serve over 11 million customers. Click here to view a list of all the CCAs in California and learn more about the clean energy revolution.

Why "Opt Up" to 100% Renewable Electricity?

When you choose electricity from 100% renewable sources, there are no greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) associated with your electricity use and you're supporting new clean energy generation in California and programs in your own community.

Does 100% renewable electricity cost more?

The average Bay Area residential customer that chooses 100% renewable energy pays a small premium - about the cost of a latte at your favorite cafe, or $5-10 per month, depending on how much electricity you use. That additional money is reinvested in the community through programs that support renters, homeowners, and businesses.

Can I Opt Up through PG&E?

Yes, PG&E offers a “Solar Choice” upgrade option to its customers.
